Cancer Markers Screening

These are essentially substances produced by cancer cells or other tissues as a reaction to the presence of a neoplasm. It can be proteins and enzymes produced by cancer cells, growth factors, hormones, products of their metabolic processes, oncogenes, etc.
They are detected by immunohistochemical and molecular methods in blood and other biological fluids and tissues.

Screening for cancer markers is the first tests that are ordered when cancer is suspected. In addition, during cancer treatment, the levels of cancer markers are checked to assess the patient's response to treatment and the course of the disease

After fighting cancer, it is important that the levels of cancer markers are checked periodically for any recurrence.

Cancer Antigen 50 (CA 50)
Cancer Antigen 72-4 (CA 72-4)
Cancer Antigen 21-1 (CYFRA 21-1)
