Fasting is recommended 12 hours before the test. Patients can consume as much water as they want, as it does not affect the final result of the test.
Preparation for Special Biochemical Tests
GLYCA: The individual undergoing blood sampling should abstain from eating for a minimum of 12 hours before the procedure. It is recommended to adjust glucose levels before glucagon control. Plasma (EDTA) is used.
GLYCOSYLATED HAEMOGLOBIN (HbA l c): It can be influenced by the administration of aspirin or blood transfusions. It involves the extended retention of glucose within red blood cells.
IRON BINDING CAPACITY (TIBC), FERROPHYLLINE (TRF): Prior to the morning blood sampling, the examinee should refrain from consuming any food. Blood sampling is conducted before the patient receives their scheduled dose if they are undergoing treatment.
FERRITIN: A 2-hour fast is required.
HOMOCYSTEINE: The examinee must be fasted for 12 hours. It is suggested to avoid taking methotrexate, phenytoin, antiepileptics, dopa, cholestyramine. Exposure to N2O (anesthesia) is also prohibited. Taking contraceptives or hormone therapies and pregnancy reduce serum blood levels. B12 deficiency causes price increase.
